Hello
I have question about Legionaires Pilum Assault tactic. Special missile attack during the charge is free, so no AcT are spent. There is possibility for critical hit during that attack??

Edit: And this same question with Scabtha Hunters and Sons of War Assault tactic.

A critical hit inflicts direct damage equal to the amount of ACT spend for the attack, so if you don't pay ACT for the attack, you don't do any direct damage...

Hi Simon,
your answer to a question about similar tactic (Kinsword's shildbash) is:

"Since you made the extra attack with a tactic for 0 ACT, the direct damage is also 0"

Leagionnaiers tactic pilum assault costs 1 ACT, so it should inflict 1 direct damage, am I right?

Hi Grimnir,

the tactic costs 1 ACT but not the attack. The tactic will allow you to make an attack for free (0 ACT). And the amount of direct damage is calculated by the cost for the attack. So in this case, you will not deal 1 direct damage, because the attack was free.

We will think about a short clarifying paragraph in the errata pdf. This needs no adjustment, but it seems it needs clarification. Smile

Does the attack take place once the Legionaire chargers are in place next to the model being attacked? If not, how do I know how many Pilium attacks are allowed?

1) Activate Pilum Assault tactic
2) Declare that the unit is charging and spend the Action Tokens for the charge.

3) Pilum Assault:
- Legionnaire 1 declares the target model he is charging
- Check line of sight and charge range etc. to ensure Legionnaire-1 makes a successful Charge.
- Resolve Pilum Assault attack against the declared target of the charge.
- Perform Charge-movement of Legionnaire-1 to engage his target (or if the target is now dead, then Charge another enemy model within 2 inches of the original target).

4) Legionnaire 2 does the above sequence
Legionnaire 3 does the above sequence
etc....

5) Then resolve the charge attacks based on strike rank.

Does that help?

It does indeed. Our Mortans player originally wanted to make 9 Pilum attacks with his Legionaires from their starting position but we said not all 9 would make successful charges. Against the single target being charged. This clarification backs up what we thought.

Thanks. Smile
