Hi,

Just got my first Mortans in the mail. A starter box and a necromagus and a Scorpio. I'm trying to decide what to get once the next paycheck arrives.

I'm not really sold on the Bombers - but that is probably because I do not know the game well enough.

I' considering another Scorpio, 2 extra Legionnaries to max out the unit, and a Mortifex. Let me know if you think i should do something else Smile

That depends on how you would like to play. Maxing out the unit of Legionnaires is a good start for sure. You should also consider some Carnifexers for some heavy hitting power. If you need some cheap blockers buy some Legio Mortum.

The Mortifex is best used as a warlord of a mostly undead warband, so no need to buy him until you have some undead.

I would recommend Praetorians, another Scorpio and a Moloch.

I would also recommend a unit of Praetorian Carnifexers - their ability Executioner can be awesome with the tactic Campaign Veteran provided by the Princeptor. A second Scorpio is alwas a good idea. At this point a Libarum Technocrat could also be a useful addition to get a different playstyle (that is if you like a shooting-heavy warband).

Instead of the Scorpio, you could purchase a second Necromagus. With the Maleficent studies you have a mobile annoyance factor for your opponent. At the same time your other Necromagus could buff your own troops with the Magistratic studies spell set.

I have been looking a lot at the Necromagus. They are obviously relevant when you focus on an undead warband. How du you think they work in other lists? Is it viable to bring three in any circumstance at all?

One Necromagus is useful in any Mortan warband. I would take 2 in 300= points warband.

They have a fewuniversally useful spells:
Imperial Blessing +1 melee damage
Soulstone Martyr - Defiant in Death for a unit.
Aranite Tropor - makes enemies Stationary
Transmortis helps you keepvaluable models alive
foul Wind - Gives a unit Stench

Then there are also 4 attack spells they can chose from

I think that 1 or 2 Necromagi are doing fine in a "normal-sized" game of Godslayer (300 - 400 Pts.). Apart from the Necromantic Studies spell set, they are doing well in all Mortan warbands.

Yes, they are great even for non-Magistratum army. You just need to decide if you prefer a "buffer", or "attacker" Necromagus.

Hi,
IMHO buffer version is better, because Necromagus has only 6 MAG.
Offensive magic is in my opinion restricted to Mortifex.

Hi,
I was just wondering if there were any builds where I can spam them. Other than in a Undead band.
