Playing before Painting???

I am very new to the hobby and I love the figures from this line and the game.

I have a few models from different factions that but I have been using proxies and haven't assembled or painted anything yet.

I've been wanting to glue together the models I have and use them unpainted so I can stop using proxies for everything. I have noticed that some of the models like the Wyldfolk Bladeslingers should be painted first and then assembled.

How much trouble is it to take them apart, paint and glue them back together? Just so I can judge if it is worth taking that step.

Thanks in advance

I never paint them before assembling them...

Same here. There could be glue marks if you paint before assembly

To be honest I've painted many minis before assembling them. But they were very hard to paint after gluing, like Asawira from Infinity:

He's really hard to paint after gluing Wink

But if I can glue a mini before painting then I try to do this Smile

To my 25 year experience, there are very and I mean very few cases where the hassle of building after painting is worth it or the the models complexity makes it necessary.

In some cases I do a first round of base coating before assembly, but I've never painted a mini before getting it together.

It also I think depends on the quality you want to achieve. Personally I also always assembled before I painted. But I also was accepting that the 'hard to reach' spaces are not painted in that mauch detail and just stay a bit darker. They are easily overlooked anyway so no big deal. If you assemble before painting it speeds up getting everything painted in my opinion and that's what was more imprtant to me. Also glow effects are easier to make when everything is assembled.

On the other hand I just recently started experimenting with an airbrush. and I start to see why painting before assembling might be usefull here. Saves you some masking time.
